Ryan is an assistant professor of economics at the University of Manitoba, a research fellow in the Centre for Defence and Security Studies, and president of the Canadian Development Economics Study Group. He recently was a visiting professor at the University of Western Ontario as well as the National Economics University in Hanoi. Prior to a career in academia, Ryan held numerous posts in the Canadian federal government including Finance Canada, the Privy Council Office, the Treasury Board, and the Canadian International Development Agency.
